Texture adjustment
Rotates, scales and offsets, live, the texture of a material already applied in SketchUp, to fix the grain and the tile layout.
1The numbers on the screen are the steps in Step by step.
What it does
When wood grain or a floor tile layout comes in crossed, the problem is usually the direction of the image, not the mapping. The adjustment changes only the UV pins of the faces, never the image, and each change shows up in SketchUp right away.
It works the same for native PBR and V-Ray materials. In Whole material mode, the adjustment is stored in the material itself and travels with the .skp file.
Before you start
- SketchUp open with the FLUIO. extension.
- The material applied in the model, with a texture.
- To adjust only one part: select the geometry in SketchUp before opening the adjustment.
Step by step
Open the adjustment
On the material’s page, click Adjust texture. Or, in SketchUp, pick the material with the eyedropper in the Materials panel: the app opens its page, or the Picked in SketchUp page, with the Rotate and scale texture in SketchUp button.
Choose where to apply
Under Apply to: Whole material changes every face that uses the material, with nothing selected. Selection only changes only the geometry selected in SketchUp.
Rotate
Use −90°, −15°, +15° and +90°, or the degree slider for an exact value.
Scale
With Proportional checked, a single size. Unchecked, Width and Height separately, from 1/8× to 8×.
Offset
Horizontal and vertical, in tiles. On the swatch, dragging offsets and the wheel scales.
Close or revert
Revert resets the adjustment to neutral. Close exits and keeps what you did. There is no undo button in the app: Ctrl+Z in SketchUp undoes one gesture at a time.
Tips
- Dragging the same slider several times in a row counts as a single step in SketchUp’s undo.
- When you open the adjustment for a material that was already adjusted, the app reads the stored value and picks up where you left off.
- In Selection only, the selected component is made unique before the adjustment, so the other copies stay as they are.
Common problems
- When“Open SketchUp to adjust the texture.”
- What to doClick Open SketchUp. The window updates when it connects.
- WhenThe material has no texture; there is nothing to rotate or scale.
- What to doThe adjustment only works on materials with an image. A solid color has no grain.
- WhenThe material isn’t in this model or isn’t applied to any face.
- What to doApply the material first, or use the eyedropper to pick the material you want to adjust.
- WhenThere is more than one copy of the material.
- What to doPick the right copy with the SketchUp eyedropper.
