The numbers on the screen are the steps in Step by step.

What it does

Merges the block’s scene into the open 3ds Max scene, with the objects selected, duplicate names renamed and the textures relinked to the library folder. You don’t need to unzip anything or hunt for maps.

You choose the engine when you insert. When the package only has the V-Ray version and you ask for Corona, the app converts it inside Max.

Before you start

  • 3ds Max 2022 to 2027 installed.
  • The 3ds Max connector installed (see Connectors).
  • The block downloaded. If it isn’t, download it from its page first.

Step by step

  1. Open the page and click Insert

    With the block downloaded, click Insert into 3ds Max. For blocks in the SketchUp catalog, this button is in the lower row.

  2. Choose the engine

    The Choose the engine. window offers Corona and V-Ray. The choice applies to this insertion only.

    • Corona: inserts as Corona. V-Ray files go through the Corona Converter inside Max.
    • V-Ray: inserts the package’s V-Ray version, when there is one.

  3. Choose the scene, if there is more than one

    With more than one 3ds Max open, Where to insert appears: each row shows the file, the number of nodes and the PID. Click the scene that should receive the block.

  4. Check the scene

    The block comes in selected. The app’s message says how many objects came in and whether the Corona Converter ran.

Tips

  • If 3ds Max is closed, the app opens the newest supported version, installs or updates the connector if needed and waits for it to connect.
  • Native SketchUp blocks also go into Max: they are imported with Max’s own .skp importer, without asking for the engine.
  • When the package has both versions, the one for the requested engine goes in, in the newest Max version available.

Common problems

WhenThe app says 3ds Max is open without the connector active.
What to doClose and reopen 3ds Max and try again. If it continues, reinstall it in Connectors.
WhenThe app says the Max extension is on an older version and asks you to update it.
What to doIn Connectors, click Install connector and restart that 3ds Max window.
WhenThe app says no supported version of 3ds Max was found.
What to doThe connector covers 3ds Max 2022 to 2027.
WhenYou asked for V-Ray and the block came in as Corona.
What to doThat package only has the Corona version; the app inserts it as it is.
