Insert into SketchUp
The block comes in attached to the cursor, with the finish of your choice, the template tag and the product details stored in the component.
1The numbers on the screen are the steps in Step by step.
What it does
Brings the block into the open model as a component attached to the cursor: you click where you want it and you’re done. One Ctrl+Z undoes it all, and the camera doesn’t move.
The component carries the product details (brand, code, dimensions, supplier, estimated price), which show in Component Options and in File › Generate Report. 3ds Max blocks can be converted to SKP before inserting.
Before you start
- SketchUp open, with the FLUIO. extension loaded. The app doesn’t open SketchUp to insert blocks.
- No group or component open for editing in SketchUp.
- The block downloaded.
Step by step
Click Insert into SketchUp
On the block’s page, click Insert into SketchUp. The app prepares the model and extracts the textures.
Choose the model and the finish
If the block has variations or finishes, Choose the model opens: choose the finish in the swatch strip and the variation in the list. The first time, a new finish takes a few seconds to be generated.
Choose the window, if there is more than one
With two or more SketchUp windows open, Where to insert appears, with each model’s title, the SketchUp version and whether it has V-Ray.
Place it in the model
The block stays attached to the cursor, with its dimensions in the message. Click to place it; Esc cancels. On the click, the block gets the category tag, if the model has the template tags.
3ds Max block: convert it first
On a 3ds Max block’s page, Insert into SketchUp opens Choose the format.. Choose the materials (Native PBR or PBR + V-Ray) and the geometry (1:1 or Optimized) and click Convert for SketchUp.
- The conversion runs in a hidden 3ds Max and can take a few minutes. You can keep browsing.
- The SKP goes into the asset’s own SKETCHUP folder. The original .max doesn’t change.
- Already converted with the same options? The window offers to insert directly or Convert again.
Tips
- If SketchUp supports native PBR, a copy of the block with PBR materials goes in, generated once after the download.
- The tag is only used if it already exists in the model: in a model without the template, the block comes in with no tag.
- The price stored in the component is an estimate; confirm it with the supplier.
- Optimized reduces triangles smaller than 8 mm and smooths by angle, good for beds, sofas and fabrics. 1:1 keeps the Max mesh.
