HDRIs
HDR skies and environments to light your scene: in SketchUp as a V-Ray Dome or native environment, and in 3ds Max with Corona.
1The numbers on the screen are the steps in Step by step.
What it does
The HDRIs tab has HDR panoramas for light and reflections, grouped by type of place: interiors, studio, street and city, countryside, coast, mountains, sky only and others.
Once downloaded, an HDRI becomes the scene’s light in one click: in SketchUp as a V-Ray Dome light or in the native PBR Environments tray, and in 3ds Max as a Corona environment.
Before you start
- SketchUp: V-Ray for SketchUp, or SketchUp 2025 or newer for the native environment.
- 3ds Max: open, connected and with Corona as the current renderer.
- The free plan includes 20 HDRI downloads per computer.
Step by step
Choose the HDRI
Browse the categories under Light, starting with All HDRIs, and open the page. Click the preview to enlarge it.
Download the right resolution
Choose the Resolution and click Download. The green dot marks the resolutions already on disk.
Apply in SketchUp
Click Apply in SketchUp and choose V-Ray or Native PBR. With V-Ray, the app creates a Dome light with the HDRI and its message tells you what changed in the scene. With native PBR, the HDRI goes to the Environments tray.
Or apply in 3ds Max
With Max open and Corona as the renderer, click Apply in 3ds Max. The HDRI goes in as the environment, with neutral values.
Tips
- Test at a lower resolution and switch to the higher one only for the final render.
- With the V-Ray Dome, the app may turn off the sun and other Domes in the scene so the HDRI drives the lighting. The message at the end says what was done.
- The page shows the projection (equirectangular), the format and the file size.
Common problems
- WhenThe app says 3ds Max is not connected to FLUIO.
- What to doFor HDRIs the app doesn’t open Max on its own: open 3ds Max, wait for it to connect and apply again.
- WhenAn error saying the current renderer is not Corona.
- What to doIn 3ds Max, set Corona as the scene’s renderer and apply again.
- WhenNative PBR appears disabled.
- What to doThe native environment exists from SketchUp 2025 onward. Use V-Ray or a newer version of SketchUp.
